No Need for a Lamp
A Day 12 devotional on the Lamb as the light of the city and the steady light for every dark place today.
Today's Reflection
There is a beautiful old hymn that sings, "In the land of fadeless day, where the light has lost its shade."
It describes eternity, a place where night never falls, where shadows vanish, and darkness has no home.
Revelation gives a picture of the same reality: a city so bright that it does not even need the sun or the moon. The Lamb Himself is the light.
That is the truth in the line: there is no need for a lamp because Jesus is the sun.
In the Bible, lamps were essential. A lamp in a dark room stood between sight and blindness. Lamps guided and comforted. Lamps pushed back night.
But in the vision of heaven, God shows a place where no lamp is needed, not because people carry a better light, but because they dwell in the presence of the Light Himself.
Jesus does not just provide light. He is the light. He does not just chase away darkness. He fills every space with glory.
This has meaning for today. When thoughts feel heavy, circumstances feel dark, or hope seems distant, Jesus is still the Light that never fades. He is constant, unending, and bigger than any darkness faced.
One day, in the land of fadeless day, shadows will never return, and Jesus Himself will be the glory of every moment. Until then, we live by His light, not by lamp alone.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are the Light of the world. When life feels dark, remind hearts that You are the sun - constant, unfading, unending. Help us reflect Your light here and now, looking forward to the day when we live in Your glory forever. Amen.
