Peace, Be Still

A Day 31 devotional on the peace of Jesus in the middle of storms and the calm His voice still brings.

Today's Reflection

"And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."

"Peace be still. Every time I face the waves, I don't want to be afraid. I don't want to fear the storm."

Hope Darst's words capture something deeply human.

Do I want to face the waves? No.

Do I want to walk through a storm? Not at all.

But I have come to realize that storms are not optional in this life. They come uninvited and sometimes overwhelming.

Yet even in that truth, there is a deeper assurance:

The flood will not sweep me away.

Because the One who stands in the boat with me is the Master of the sea.

The One who speaks, and the wind listens.

The One who commands, and chaos bows.

And just like that, what felt uncontrollable is brought under His authority.

So I remind myself of whose I am, and who is with me. And in that remembrance, I find peace.

Not because the storm never came, but because I was never alone in it.

Whenever you face the storm, remember:

The Master of the sea still speaks... and His voice still brings calm.

Prayer

Lord, in the middle of every storm I face, help me to remember that You are with me. When the waves feel overwhelming and fear tries to take over, speak Your peace into my heart. Teach me to trust You even when I do not understand what is happening around me. Quiet every anxious thought, calm every raging emotion, and anchor me in the truth of Your presence. Remind me that I am not alone, and that nothing is beyond Your control. Help me to rest in You, knowing that the same voice that calms the sea is speaking over my life. Peace, be still within me and around me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
