Choose to Stay

A Day 14 devotional on holding fast to the call of Christ and refusing to turn back when the journey gets hard.

Today's Reflection

No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.

"I have decided to follow Jesus" was in my spirit as soon as I woke up for three consecutive days because it was one of my toughest seasons.

I actually laughed when I woke up on the first day and heard this song in my spirit because I knew exactly what it meant.

Those days were so heavy. So heavy that I had random thoughts of giving up on God. I found myself wondering how people in the world were having their cake and eating it, and there I was, doing the best I could and serving the Lord, yet still having a difficult time. After all, I am human.

But God, being so good, put this song in my spirit to remind me of the path I had chosen.

As if that was not enough, the theme for the year in my church was "the passionate pursuit of God." Everywhere I turned, I was reminded that I had decided to follow Jesus, and there was no turning back.

I tell you this: there is nothing outside of being in Christ.

So in the moments when it feels hard, when it feels unfair, when you are tempted to look back or give up, remember the decision you made.

Choose to stay.

Prayer

God, in the moments when my heart feels tired and my faith feels weak, help me to remember why I chose You. When I am tempted to look back or compare my journey, give me the strength to stay. Remind me that there is nothing for me outside of You, and steady my heart in truth. Help me to hold on, even when it is hard, and to trust that You are with me through it all. Amen.
