The Promise Keeper

A Day 23 devotional on holding on to God's word when the wait feels long and the promise feels delayed.

Today's Reflection

"God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?"

As a child, I used to take promises very seriously.

If someone said, "I'll give you something tomorrow," I would remember it word for word. And when tomorrow came, I would be waiting.

If they did not bring it, I would be disappointed. I would remind them again and again. And if it still did not happen, I would get upset and refuse to speak with them again.

Looking back now, I can laugh at how intense I was about it. But maybe that childlike expectation says something honest about us.

We do not like broken promises.

We remember what was said. We hold on to what was promised. And when it does not happen, it leaves a mark.

But God is not like us.

He is not forgetful of His word. He is not careless with what He has spoken over our lives. The Bible says His word does not return to Him empty; it always accomplishes what He sent it to do.

Even when it feels delayed. Even when it looks like nothing is happening. Even when life tries to convince us otherwise.

God has not abandoned what He said.

There are moments when we grow impatient, like that child version of ourselves. We look at God's promises and wonder why they have not shown up yet. Why do things not look like what we expected? Why is the wait so long?

But delay is not denial. And silence is not absence.

God is not struggling to remember what He promised. He is working it out in ways we may not yet see.

His promises are not fragile. They do not depend on perfect timing from our side or on forgetfulness from His.

He is the Promise Keeper. And what He speaks over your life will stand.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You are faithful to Your word. Forgive me for the times I have doubted Your promises because of what I see or how long I have waited. Teach me to trust Your timing and Your heart. Help me to hold on, even when I do not understand the process. I choose to believe that what You have spoken over my life will come to pass. You are the Promise Keeper, and I rest in that truth today. Amen.
